BULLSEYE! Cop wins 'two-to-one' gunfight in Savanna-la-Mar

One of two gunmen who allegedly attempted to rob an off-duty police officer in Savanna-la-Mar, Westmoreland on Tuesday evening, was shot and killed and his crony shot and seriously injured by the lawman. A woman who was reportedly standing in the vicinity of the exchange of gunfire was shot in the ankle. The identity of the dead man is not yet ascertained. Reports are that about 8:30 p.m., a police officer was engaged in a conversation on his cellular phone while sitting in his motorcar along Lewis Street in Savanna-la-Mar, when he was approached by two men who rode up on a motorcycle. A shootout ensued after the pillion rider reportedly pulled a handgun from his waistband and demanded that the cop hand over his phone. The two bikers were shot and taken to hospital, where one was pronounced dead and other admitted in a serious condition. During the gun battle, the policeman’s car was reportedly extensively shot up. The police say a Smith and Wesson revolver was taken from one of the gunmen. The Independent Commission of Investigation has commenced a probe into the incident.

Two shot, one fatally, in Savanna-la-Mar, Westmoreland

Two men were shot, one fatally, during what the police described as an escalating gang feud in a section of Savanna-la-Mar, Westmoreland on Friday morning. The deceased has been identified as 32-year-old Kareem James of Darling Street, Savanna-la-Mar. Reports are that about 7:30 a.m., James and another man were standing along a section of Ricketts Street in Savanna-la-Mar, when gunshots were heard. The police were summoned and upon their arrival, the two men were found suffering from gunshot wounds and taken hospital, where James was pronounced dead and the other man was admitted for treatment. Loop News understands that the shooting was the latest tit-for-tat attack between warring factions from Dexter Street and Darling Street in the Westmoreland capital. The Savanna-la-Mar police are investigating the incident.
